Pre-College Summer Programs: Voice
1. Vocal Arts Academy at Oklahoma City University
Location:
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Eligibility:
2016-2017 high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors
Application Deadline:
Early Admission deadline: January 20th , 2017
2nd Admission deadline: February 20th, 2017
Late Application Deadline:
3rd Admission deadline: March 31st, 2017
Admissions Notification:
Notifications will be made at the email address you provide in your application.
If you submit by January 20th, you will be notified by February 1st.
If you submit by February 20th, you will be notified by March 15th.
If you submit of March 31st, you will be notified by April 13th.
Early application is strongly suggested.

2-week session: $2,800
Early Bird Discount: 15% off the entire tuition, if application is received by January 20th; early application will also make you eligible for financial aid.
Scholarships:
Limited financial aid is available by filling out the financial aid section on the summer registration form/submitting requested documents. Applying early might increase your chances of receiving financial aid.
If you were selected to participate in your state’s high school All-State Ensemble, you will receive a $150 scholarship. Make sure to indicate this honor on your registration form and send along photo-copied documentation of your selection for All-State Ensemble. Only ensembles organized the by the state’s Music Educators Association will be considered.
Audition Requirement: Two song selections – one or both selections should be from the classical repertoire (foreign language and art songs are accepted). You may substitute a pre-1970 musical theater song for one of your selections. Neither song should exceed three minutes. You must record your selections live with live piano accompaniment only – no background or karaoke accompaniments are accepted. Only microphones attached to camera input are allowed. Auditions should not be recorded using reverb enhancement or any pitch altering technology. If pitch altering or enhancement is suspected a new DVD will be requested.
Recordings of live stage performances/shows are not acceptable.
Submissions are accepted via YouTube and on DVD. Please do not send mini DVDs or video tapes. Vocal auditions are not accepted on CD’s and audio-cassettes.
Submissions must include a headshot. 8 X 10 school photos are acceptable.
Submissions must include a performance resume.
Fun Fact On Saturday mornings, students get the chance to select their schedule with the "Saturday Electives," featuring such classes as pilates, yoga, tap, stage combat, and performance career preparation.

2. NYU Steinhardt, Classical Voice Intensive

New York, NY
Eligibility:
High School students who are at least 16 years of age or older

July 23rd- August 5th, 2017 (3-week session)

May 15th, 2017 (final deadline); application is open starting January 15th, 2017

Audition Requirements:
Submit three video clips consisting of the following material:
Introduction: Please say your name clearly, the date, the city you are from, and the pieces that you are going to perform.
Two songs: Your two selections should be complete and contrasting songs. Each selection should be no longer than four minutes. One of your songs must be in English and the other in a foreign language – Italian, German, French, or Spanish. Piano must accompany you (no a capella singing).
In addition to the above videos, please submit the following:
Resume: Your resume should reflect your experience as a performing artist and may include experience and training in solo voice, choral, theater, musical instruments and dance. Please include foreign language study and any special skills that you would like to share.
Headshot or recent photograph
Rather than a single long video, they would like three separate clips: the introduction, the first song, and the second song.
Please make sure your voice can be heard above the accompaniment – try different distances from the sound source until you find the right “balance” between piano and voice.

With New York City as your backdrop, you’ll be able to experience both world class operas and Broadway musicals during your time at the program, so you’ll be inspired to practice hard!

3. Westminster Choir College of Rider University for Solo Vocal Artists

Princeton, NJ
Eligibility:
Ages 14-18 yrs.
Program Dates:
July 16 - July 29th, 2017

Scholarships:
Two or more programs - $100 discount off each program
Family discount - Families sending more than one student receive a $100 discount per program
Vocal Institute discount - Add High School Vocal Institute for only $1,395 (instead of $1,895)
Audition Requirements:
New students need to submit a letter of recommendation, a personal statement (regarding their interest in this program and/or their passion for singing), a repertoire list, and video recording (DVD, YouTube link, etc.) Auditions on DVD should be labeled clearly with name and repertoire selections or via YouTube. If the audition is on YouTube, send the url address with the application. Set the privacy settings to “unlisted.” Do not make it public or private. Auditions should include two pieces. Repertoire should be age appropriate, MUST be performed from memory and should include: Italian songs and arias from 16th-18th centuries, German Lieder or American art songs. Returning students only need a current repertoire list. Upon acceptance all students will receive repertoire assignments for the program.Enrollment is limited to 40 singers.
Final decisions will be made and communicated by March 31st, 2017.

Seminars and Master Classes in applying and auditioning for colleges of music, dealing with performance anxiety and memorization are just some of the more contemporary classes offered.

4. Interlochen Arts Camp High School Vocal Arts
Location:
Interlochen, MI
Eligibility:
Students currently in grade 9-12
Program Dates:
June 24th - August 7th, 2017 (6 weeks)
Application Deadline:
February 1, 2017
Late Application Deadline:
The priority application date for programs that require an audition or portfolio is February 1, 2017. All other programs enroll on a rolling basis.
Application Fee/Upload Fee:
$50 non-refundable application fee. Online payment accepted through the online application form; check or money order also accepted. Admission is not guaranteed and applicants are given an admission decision as quickly as possible.

Scholarships:
Interlochen provides partial-tuition merit scholarships for a limited number of its most qualified candidates. No financial documentation is required. Only applicants for admission to programs requiring an audition or portfolio will be considered for merit scholarships. To apply, simply check the box pertaining to merit scholarship on the application for admission. Merit scholarships are not available for one-week Institute programs.
Audition Requirements:
Select, memorize and record two classical music selections. No musical theatre pieces. Pieces should include piano accompaniment. When You Arrive at Camp: students will sing and will be placed into the appropriate choral and operatic experience. Accepted students are required to arrive at camp with three memorized performance-ready classical pieces, at least one of which should be in a language other than English.
Fun Fact:
There are no classes on Monday afternoons, and off-campus field trips to the Sleeping Bear Dunes and Peterson Beach on Lake Michigan are camper favorites.
